Chapter 9

GARAGES ARE GOOD for three things.

Car stuff.

Stinky garbage stuff.

And rock-star stuff.

We were there for the rock-star stuff.

I looked around the place.

The walls were covered with posters of famous singing people.

Only guess what?

No tomatoes on those people!

Just tattoos.

And big, thick chains around their necks.

And piercings everywhere that made them look like they had the chicken pox.

Heather made an ewww face at the posters. She grabbed The Cape’s arm.

Even though he wasn’t a real Super-Hero.

I did a pretend smile.

A pretend smile is just like a regular smile, only you don’t mean it on the inside.

“I like what you’ve done with the place,” I said, nodding my head slowly.

Reggie stopped tuning his guitar.

“Cool,” he said.

The rest of Smashing Good nodded at us.

“Hey,” they said.

Rock-star people sometimes only say one word at a time.

To save energy for their concerts, probably.

Reggie put his guitar down. He walked over to Fudgy and noodled his head. “So, my little Fudger’s going to be in a band, is he?” he said. He looked around at the rest of Smashing Good. “Cool.”

He squeezed “Fudger’s” cheeks.

Fudger turned Twizzler red.

“Now let’s get ready to rock ’n’ roll,” Reggie said. He threw Fudgy a set of drumsticks. “Let’s see what you’ve got, little Bro.”

Fudgy looked like the only place he wanted to roll was out the door!

He wasn’t used to drumsticks.
